May I Suggest

For a fun, cliched, slightly historical read with vampires, alchemy, the philosopher's stone, a ghost and a love story.

A lot of manga on this list, which I was trying for the first time, enjoyed it for a bit but got tired of it quickly. Love the Sandman series, and anything by Neil Gaiman. #6, 8, 40,44 and 46 were also good, and good for discussion groups. Heartsick by Cain is a gruesome serial killer story and if you like faeries then the trilogy by Black and Marr are good.

Review - Mystery of Grace/De Lint

I finished the Mystery of Grace back in early April, but haven’t known what to say about it and the more I waited the harder it became to write, so now I’m just going to ramble a little about it because most of it is gone out of my head. This is my second De Lint book, I’ve forgotten the title of the first, though I did enjoy it very much and I wanted to try another De Lint and when I heard about this one it sounded great and I couldn’t wait to read it. Part of not writing about it was I couldn’t figure out what to say without giving away too much, and I think if you know too much about this one it ruins the story.

A supernatural love story, a story about magic, belief and the afterlife. The religious overtones at the end ruined it a bit for me, but I absolutely loved Grace Quintero, a tattoo wearing car mechanic who’s into rockabilly music. She knows what she likes and she goes for it, not afraid of where it may lead. It was Grace that made the story worth reading and I’m rather upset that she’s dead and gone because I would truly love to have more stories about her.
